Community Education Programs

Our Community Education Classes are typically run out of Union Street Center.  Any other class sites will be indicated in the course descriptions listed below.  We would love to hear your ideas about classes that you would like to take or teach.  Give us a call at 517-663-8169!

We are currently accepting class proposals for our Community Education Program!  This is a great opportunity to share your skills with others.  Print and mail a copy of the Course Proposal Form to the attention of Melisa Kennedy at 501 Union Street or e-mail a completed form to mkennedy@erpsk12.org.

DIY NON TOXIC PRODUCTS

Discover natural substitutions & simple DIY solutions for the hidden toxins in your home.  In this class you will be making 3-4 full size, toxic free products that you can use everyday in your home.  Pamper yourself with a Mood Support Roll on, Lavender Lotion, Body Spray and Bath Salts.  Different products are made every week.  Take all 4 classes and you will receive a special gift! 

Dates:  Tuesdays - February 13th, 20th, 27th & March 6th

Time: 6:00- 8:00 pm

Place:  Union Street Center (Conference room) 

Cost: $15-$20 depending on how many products you choose to make

 

CHAMPIONS of the REALM (Grades 6 to 8)

Our heros have unwittingly released a great evil upon the land, and now they must reverse their misfortune.  Will they bring down the Tower of Korash, or do they go to their doom?  Join us, and find out!  *GURPS , Dungeon Fantasy game system*  Materials such as dice, pencils, figurines and character sheets will be provided.

Yoga (Ages 16 & up)

In this class you will experience first hand how yoga can bring stability, balance and flexibility leading to inner calm and peace.  This class is open to any level of practitioner.  Each person will be guided through well-rounded intelligent sequences, varying from vigorous to gentle.

Dates: Tuesdays 9 (NO CLASSES APRIL 10TH OR MAY 7TH)

Time: 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Place: Union Street Center (Room 105)

Cost:  $8 drop in fee

 

CARDIO DRUMMING

Connect with your true rhythm in life combining  drumming, music, rhythm and movement! This complete cardio workout is sure to make you sweat!  After each workout you will have the option to purchase a Herbal Life protein shake for $5.

Dates: Mondays and Thursdays (Year round)

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Place: Greyhound Central Elementary (Gym)

Cost: (Drop-in) $2.00 to rent a kit or $25 to purchase kit

 

SANCHIN-RYU'S KARATE FOR KIDS - (Grades K-8)

This program combines two crucial courses into one - Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Thursdays -  Spring Session (April 12th - May 31st) 

Time:  6:00pm to 7:00pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $30 for 8 week session

 

SANCHIN-RYU'S KARATE FOR ADULTS

Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program is designed to empower today's adults with knowledge that can save your life! Students will learn a broad range of techniques including individual strikes, advanced combinations and more. This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

Dates:  Thursdays -  Spring Session (April 12th - May 31st) 

Time:  8:00pm to 9:00pm

Place:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $30 for 8 week session

 

SANCHIN-RYU'S KARATE FOR FAMILIES

A parent and child program for ages four (4) and up. This program combines two crucial courses into one - Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). This class is taught by Certified Sanchin-Ryu Instructors, Master Dave Korman and Sensei Scott Jansen.

ZUMBA and strength training combo (AGES 13 & UP)

The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to created a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. This class is for all ages and fitness levels. An optional 20 minute strength training class follows the Zumba class. You will need to supply your own free weight. Instructor Denise Perkins.

Dates: Monday and Thursday (Year round)

Time: 5:30pm to 6:30 pm (Zumba) 6:30pm - 6:50pm (Strength Training)

Place: Union Street Center

Cost: $5 drop-in fee (Zumba) $2 additional (Strength Training)

 

GETTING PAID TO TALK

Have you ever been told that you have a great voice?  This exciting class will explore the numerous aspects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books and documentaries.  We will cover all the basics, including how to prepare the all important demo, how to be successful and earn great income in this exciting field.  This class is informative, lots of fun and a great first step for anyone interested in voice acting professionally.  Space is limited, and registration closes one week prior to class, so register early!

Date: Tuesday, May 15th

Time:  6:30 - 9:00 pm

Location:  Union Street Center

Cost:  $25

 

ER Fun Camps

We are excited to introduce “ER fun camps” this year! These camps are intended for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Come and join us for Extended Day Learning on early release days. Camp will run from 2:10 – 4:10 pm at Lockwood Elementary.  Students will be exposed to creativity, music, games, and S.T.E.M. challenges like making a flotation device for your action figures.  Lego math, Lego building, tower building with edible construction materials, themed activities like “Grabbing Spiders Through a Web” in October,  and balloon tennis are just a few of the fun activities that you child will do during this camp!

The cost of this camp is $5 per student per camp.

Dates of camp:  Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Dec. 13, Jan. 31, Feb. 28, March 21, April 18, May 23

Office hours vary based on the building-wide schedule.  Please leave a voice mail message or send an e-mail and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Class cancellation process:

Most classes require a minimum number of participants.  If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will contact registrants within 24 hours of the first class and a full refund will be issued.

Refund Procedures:

To cancel your registration, please email mkennedy@erpsk12.org.  Class cancellations must be requested 48 hours prior to the first class for a full refund.  A 50% refund is offered for cancellation prior to the second class.  No refund will be given after the second class or after a one-day seminar.  Refunds are typically processed within 30 days.
